About Dr. Cheryl
Cheryl L. Avila, PhD taught mathematics education at the University of Central Florida after more than 20 years in K-12 classrooms. Math Doctor is where that lifetime of teaching meets your student.

Cheryl taught mathematics in Brevard County, Florida and Albuquerque, New Mexico classrooms for over two decades - every grade, every level, every kind of learner.
She earned her doctorate in Mathematics Education from the University of Central Florida, adding a BA in Mathematics from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, plus an MA in Secondary Education and an Education Specialist degree from the University of New Mexico.
At UCF, Cheryl taught mathematics education to future teachers, and she has published numerous articles in state and national education journals.
In 2012 she was among the first in the nation named a Master Teacher of Honor by Kappa Delta Pi, the educational honor society. She was also named Doctoral Student of the Year by the Florida Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators and received UCF's Graduate Student Teaching Award.
Her goal is simple: to share her passion for the natural beauty, fun, and humor in mathematics - one student at a time.
